Tarzan is a fictional character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. I was a great fan of Tarzan, John Carter and other Burroughs characters when I was a young teenager. Burroughs created an extreme example of a hero figure largely unalloyed with character flaws or faults. He is described as being Caucasian, extremely athletic, tall, handsome, and tanned, with grey eyes and long black hair. Emotionally, he is courageous, loyal and steadfast. He is intelligent and learns new languages easily. Tarzan's philosophy embraces an extreme form of "return to nature". So for a few days before I head on a holiday here are some of the Tarzans from over the years.

DeWet Du Toit, a former South African security guard has turned himself into a real-life Tarzan in a bid to star in a film about the jungle hero. The 24-year-old unemployed bodybuilder became obsessed by the legend of Tarzan while living in Namibia as a young boy, where his father was a collector of Tarzan books and comics. DeWet now hopes he will be spotted by Hollywood scouts looking for a new leading man to play Tarzan.
